He points out that this is "the biggest investment by the Generalitat in terms of water purification in the Marina Baixa in recent decades"
He points to the Council's objective of "zero discharges" in water matters and underlines that in six months the historic debt with Benidorm in water treatment has been settled
He recalls the leadership of the Valencian Community in water reuse "by recycling 40% of the water in all of Spain".
He believes that it is necessary to promote purification instead of desalination because "we are more sustainable, efficient, reasonable and ecological".
The President of the Generalitat has visited the Benidorm Wastewater Treatment Plant
The president of the Generalitat, Carlos Mazón, has announced an investment of 14.5 million euros to renovate and improve the entire water purification system in Benidorm in four years, which is "the biggest investment of the Generalitat in matters of water purification in the Marina Baixa in recent decades".
This was pointed out by the head of the Council after his visit to the Benidorm Wastewater Treatment Plant, where he said that in the coming weeks the agreement for the renewal of the sanitation and purification network will be signed of this city's waste water between the Generalitat, through the Ministry of the Environment, Water, Infrastructure and Territory, the public entity of Wastewater Sanitation of the Valencian Community (EPSAR) and Benidorm City Council .
During his visit, Carlos Mazón emphasised the Council's commitment to water. Thus, he affirmed that "we said it would be the water legislature and we are complying with it, we have the goal of zero discharge and we are complying with it".
Likewise, he has referred to the fact that in just six months the "historic debt" of the Generalitat Valenciana in water purification in Benidorm has been settled.
Carlos Mazón has pointed out that this investment is "an example of taking advantage of the water we have in our territory and promoting purification instead of desalination". Thus he defended that "it is about preventing the water from reaching the sea so as not to have to take it out again because it is less sustainable, it costs more energy and it is not the solution".
Likewise, he indicated that with this infrastructure it complies with "the discourse of the integral, sustainable, environmental and ecological water cycle of water in the Valencian Community, which is what allows us to claim the water we lack once we have done our homework and demonstrated that solidarity and sustainability are compatible".
In this sense, he has put Benidorm and the Marina Baixa as an example of responsibility in water matters and has recalled the leadership of the Valencian Community in water reuse by recycling 40% of the water in all of Spain.
Renewal of Benidorm's sanitation network
The planned actions to renew Benidorm's sanitation and waste water treatment system will put an end to the current obsolescence deficiencies and will be 90% financed by the Generalitat.
Among the planned actions, it is worth noting the reform of the electrical installations of the pumping stations, the repair of the pumping station of Elche Park and the improvement of the old water treatment line (line B ). It is also planned to adapt the workshop, control and staff building of the wastewater treatment plant (WWTP), as well as the improvement of the sludge treatment line.
In his visit to the Benidorm Wastewater Treatment Plant, he was accompanied by the minister for Environment, Water, Infrastructure and Territory, who presides, Salomé Pradas, and the mayor of Benidorm and president of the Provincial Council of Alicante, Toni Pérez , among other authorities.
