European Cycling starts this Saturday in La Nucía with the 'Clàssica Comunitat Valenciana'
Tommorow, Saturday January 20, at 12 noon, La Nucía hosts the start of the “ Clàssica Comunitat Valenciana 1969 ” cycling event, at the Estadi Olímpic Camilo Cano . It is a 200 km one-day race. with the finish line in Valencia, which opens the UCI road cycling calendar in Europe. This 40th edition has 154 cyclists from 22 teams, highlighting the eight World Tour (top category): Movistar, UAE Team Emirates (best team in the UCI world 2023), Astana, Arkea- B&B Hotels, Groupama-FDJ, Cofidis, Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale Team and Jayco Alula.
In 2024 La Nucía will be the start of this cycling event, from the avenue located in front of the Estadi Olímpic Camilo Cano , this Saturday, January 20 at 12 noon. Although one hour before at 11 a.m. there will be the presentation of the teams , signature control, where cycling fans will be able to see the participating cyclists live.
The spectacular platoon with its 154 units will pass together through the urban area of La Nucía as it is a neutralized exit during the first kilometers. Afterwards, the multicolored snake will head to Callosa to face the first pass of the test, the “Coll de Rates” , the second pass will be the “Alt de Barx” and the race will continue towards Xàtiva where they will face “Serra Grossa”, the last mountainous difficulty to 80 km from arrival.
Final para sprinters
The finish line of the test will be on Avenida de Francia in València , where they are expected to arrive around 5 p.m. In principle, it is expected to be resolved in a sprint and among the favorites are the French Bryan Coquard (COFIDIS), Marc Sarreau (Groupama-FDJ), Michel Matthews (Jayco), Lonardi Giovanni (Polti) or the Italian Luca Mozzato (Arkea). Within the national squad, the presence of the current Spanish champion Oier Lazkano (Movistar) and the promising Igor Arrieta (UAE) stand out, who debuts with his new team in this test.
40th Edition
The legendary event “Clàssica Comunitat Valenciana 1969” returned in 2021 after 16 years of absence. In 2024 it will experience its fourth edition of the new stage and the fortieth edition in its history. In the previous edition, held in 2023, La Nucía hosted the finish line where the young Belgian cyclist Arnaud De Lie (Lotto-Dstny) won in a tight sprint . Since its return, the “Clàssica Comunitat Valenciana 1969” has always been linked to La Nucía, hosting the start (2021 and 2022) and the finish line (2023). It is a UCI 1.1 test
