Benidorm / 17 December 2025
Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat Valenciana (FGV) has resumed TRAM Line 1 services between Benidorm station and the La Vila Joiosa Regional Hospital, following the completion of major infrastructure works including track duplication and electrification.
The project, carried out along a 6.23-kilometre section, represents an investment of almost €40 million by the Generalitat Valenciana. It delivers significant improvements to rail capacity, accessibility and sustainability, while also enhancing the integration of the line into its natural surroundings.
The reopening was attended by the Mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez; the President of the Generalitat Valenciana, Juanfran Pérez Llorca; the Regional Minister for Infrastructure, Vicente Martínez Mus; as well as mayors, councillors and regional and provincial representatives from across the Marina Baixa region. During the visit, representatives travelled along the upgraded section as far as La Creueta station in La Vila Joiosa to view the improvements at first hand.
Mayor Toni Pérez highlighted that the project “not only significantly improves Benidorm’s connectivity with an essential facility such as the Regional Hospital, serving the whole Marina Baixa area, but also advances the landscape integration of the TRAM infrastructure with El Moralet Park, Benidorm’s main green lung.”
As part of the works, a new pedestrian and cycle greenway has been created, extending the existing path from the car park next to the Beniardá station. This healthy, sustainable route is connected to the existing greenway network via a new footbridge, reinforcing active and environmentally friendly mobility.
The Mayor recalled that the project responds to a long-standing request from Benidorm, first raised in 2015 and addressed by the regional government from 2023 onwards. He also thanked the Generalitat and FGV for their “sensitivity to Benidorm’s needs” and confirmed that work is continuing on further strategic mobility projects, including the tram conversion of the section between Beniardá station and the future Intermodal station.
President Juanfran Pérez Llorca underlined the “significant transformation in mobility and transport” achieved in the Marina Baixa region since 2023, noting that the project represents “a qualitative leap in connectivity”, particularly in access to essential services such as the Regional Hospital. He also confirmed that future phases will include further electrification and track widening towards Altea.

Planned actions include:
These initiatives aim to provide residents with a modern, sustainable and competitive public transport system, while ensuring strong inter-municipal connectivity across the region.
Prior to the site visit, President Pérez Llorca made his first official visit to Benidorm City Hall since his appointment, where he was received by Mayor Toni Pérez and members of the local government. During the visit, he signed the City Hall’s Book of Honour, reaffirming the Generalitat’s commitment to Benidorm’s future development and transformation.
