THIS 9TH EDITION BRINGS TOGETHER MORE THAN 50 CRAFT STANDS, DEMONSTRATIONS OF OLD TRADES, TRADITIONAL RECIPES, MUSICAL PERFORMANCES AND A COMPLETE PROGRAM OF CHILDREN'S ENTERTAINMENT THROUGH THE STREETS OF THE HISTORIC CENTRE
How wool is made from the moment the sheep is sheared until the sock reaches your foot. How iron was forged in ancient times using heat, force, and hammer. Learning to cook typical street recipes like "arròs ambs fesols i naps" (rice with potatoes and naps) or admiring the "human towers" built by the Muixeranga of Alicante. These are just a few glimpses that will surprise visitors to the Finestrat Gastronomic and Traditional Market this weekend, April 26 and 27. Its 9th edition is now underway, organised by the Finestrat City Council and the local company Íbero, in collaboration with the Finestrat Women's Association and the El Balconet Festival Commission. This year, they are once again jointly promoting crafts, traditional cuisine, local produce, demonstrations of ancient crafts, live music, and children's entertainment, among other surprises.
The presentation of the Mercat was attended by the mayor, Juanfran Pérez Llorca, the Councilor for Markets, Donna Rebecca Plummer, the President of the Finestrat Gifts Association, Teresa Climent, the local Ibero artisan, Vicent Atienza and the El Balconet Festival Commission, Teresa Palomero.
“We now have the 9th edition of a fully established Market,” stated Mayor Juanfran Pérez Llorca . “We chose the weekend after Easter to extend the tourist season. And it was a great decision. Since then, each year we continue to improve and position our Market as a benchmark on the Costa Blanca.” The Mayor expressed his gratitude to the participating local organizations, such as Vicent Íbero, Les Dones, the Festival Commission, “and Pep Fuster, the chef of traditional recipes.”
The Finestrat Market covers the main streets of the traditional historic centre such as Carrer Nou, Sant Vicent, Plaça del Poble and Carrer Castellets. The programme is designed to entertain all audiences: from musical performances such as " La Gran Babylon ", parades, the human towers of the Muixeranga d'Alacant , to demonstrations of ancient trades such as iron, clay, esparto, wool and silver working. The little ones have a very special programme such as the fun children's mini-disco, the surprising face painting, storytelling, the animal farm and the wood fair.
For her part, the Councilor for Markets, Donna Rebecca Plummer , invited the population of Finestrat and the entire Community to take advantage of this weekend of April 26 and 27 "to discover the charm of our historic center, the colorful lanterns and, at the same time, enjoy the authentic, the artisanal, the traditional and the activities that we have planned for all audiences in Finestrat."
