L'Alfàs del Pi faces the beginning of the year with good prospects, since it is among the 39 municipalities recognised by the Department of Innovation, Industry, Commerce and Tourism with the Tourist Municipality certification, a distinction that allows said population to opt for extraordinary financing, among other advantages.
By province, 11 tourist municipalities belong to the province of Alicante, 15 to the province of Castellón and 13 to the province of Valencia.
In the case of l'Alfàs, the Generalitat grants the category of relevant tourist municipality of the Valencian Community, a new quality certificate, which, as recalled by the Councilor for Tourism Luis Morant, “comes to recognise the good work carried out by the Local Government in its positioning as a healthy and smart city model, betting on accessibility, sustainability, data processing and excellence. A distinction that allows access to new subsidies,” explains the mayor, “and will result in an improvement in services.”
The Generalitat, through the Department of Innovation, Industry, Commerce and Tourism, has processed a total of 39 'Tourist Municipality' recognitions in the Valencian Community during the year 2023. A distinction that allows, among other benefits, to opt for extraordinary financing from Turisme Comunitat Valenciana to alleviate the financing deficiency that these town councils have.
These are municipalities that meet the criteria and obligations established in the Statute of the Tourist Municipality, regulated by decree 5/2020 regulating the Statute and modified by Decree 203/2021 of December 17.
By province, 11 municipalities in the province of Alicante have obtained this new distinction throughout 2023, a total of 15 belong to the province of Castellón and in the province of Valencia 13 municipalities have been recognised.
These 39 towns join the registry of Tourist Municipality of the Valencian Community, which currently has 62 destinations with the 'Tourist Municipality' distinction, in accordance with the new regulations mentioned above.
It is worth remembering that destinations that prove compliance with specific requirements in terms of tourist population, tourist accommodation places, tourist resources and importance of tourism in the local economy can be recognized with the status of 'Tourist Municipality'.
These requirements are different depending on the category in which the municipality requests to be recognised, and these are: Tourist Municipality of Excellence, Tourist Municipality of Relevance and Tourist Municipality of Singularity.
