Mayor Toni Pérez receives from ONCE the first Braille copy of the Carta de Poblament and one of the first tickets, which are on sale from today.
The Spanish National Organisation for the Blind, ONCE, has joined in the celebration of the 700th anniversary of the founding of Benidorm with the special issuance of a commemorative coupon. The ticket, whose drawing will be held on Tuesday, May 6, two days before the commemoration of the signing of the founding charter, was presented this Thursday in El Castell Square by the city's mayor, Toni Pérez; the provincial director of ONCE in Alicante, Estela Medina; and the director of ONCE in Benidorm, Vicente Vázquez.
The ONCE (National Council of the Basque Country) has presented the mayor with the first copy of the Carta de Poblament (Population Charter), translated into Braille so that it can also be read by people with visual impairments. It also presented one of the first "700th Anniversary" coupons, which went on sale today. The event was also attended by numerous representatives of the municipal government; Senator Agustín Almodóbar; the Director General of Family and Children of the Generalitat (Catalan Government), Angélica Such; regional representatives Manuel Pérez Fenoll and Mario Villar; representatives of the "700th Anniversary Commission"; and members of business and civic associations; ONCE vendors; and residents of Benidorm.
The city's mayor began his speech by emphasising that "Benidorm has had a long-standing partnership with ONCE, focusing on what's important: making the city as accessible as possible, pursuing universal accessibility throughout the city and all the services we provide." Therefore, Toni Pérez thanked ONCE for issuing this coupon, which he defined as "a partnership to promote the city," since "it will allow Benidorm and its 700th anniversary to be, from today until May 6th, in the pockets of five million people through this wonderful coupon."
“We are writing another small page in this great history that Benidorm treasures, which began on May 8, 1325 when Admiral Bernat de Sarrià gave its charter with the founding of Benidorm,” said the mayor, who also explained that, “surely anyone who never visited us, and certainly missed having this image of the Castell – in allusion to the admiral of the Crown of Aragon – could not have imagined for a moment that they were laying the foundations of a city that lives, far from its profession as a military, from bringing happiness to the world, as the ONCE also does.”
Toni Pérez stated that "from today we already have the coupon on the street. We are very proud of this edition, because in addition to having the '700 Anys de Benidorm' logo clearly visible, it also offers a precise image of Benidorm, which will ensure that this coupon, whether it has a prize or not, will be kept in many homes, in our region and among those who come to buy it."
For her part, the provincial director of ONCE in Alicante, Estela Medina, stated that the issuance of this commemorative coupon is "a way of thanking Benidorm and its City Council for the great work they have always done alongside people with some type of disability and in favor of inclusion, accessibility, and collaboration" with the various disability groups.
“Benidorm is one of the world's leading tourist cities, and you give people a great sense of security when they come, especially because they know they're going to find an inclusive destination,” said Medina, who also thanked “the solidarity of the buyers of ONCE products, who make our daily work possible” through training and job creation.
The ONCE Daily Coupon offers 5 million coupons and a prize of €500,000 for each number plus the series, as well as 49 prizes of €35,000 for the five digits of the winning number. In addition, there are 450 prizes of €250 for the first four digits and another 450 prizes for the last four; 9,000 prizes of €25 for the last three or first three digits; and the same for the first and last two digits (€6), and a €2 refund for the first or last digit of the winning number.
