Two men have been arrested following a high-speed police chase that began in l’Albir and ended in a crash in Calp after the suspects fled a routine checkpoint operated by the Guardia Civil.
The incident occurred at approximately 8:30pm on Friday evening, when officers signalled a white Mercedes to stop during a routine control in l’Albir, part of L'Alfàs del Pi. The driver failed to comply and sped away, triggering a pursuit that passed through Altea before entering Calp.
Chase ends in collision
According to authorities, the situation escalated once the vehicle reached Calp, where it collided with a Civil Guard patrol car before veering into the opposite lane and crashing into a lamppost on Avenida Diputación. The police vehicle came to a stop on the central reservation.
Emergency services attended the scene, which drew significant attention from local residents and passing motorists. Officials confirmed that officers were not placed in immediate danger during the initial stages of the pursuit, despite speculation on social media.
Two arrests and multiple charges
Following the crash, officers arrested two Romanian nationals aged 34 and 39.

European arrest warrant
Further checks confirmed that the passenger was subject to a European Arrest Warrant, identified by the National Police’s international fugitives unit. He has since been transferred to the Audiencia Nacional, which handles international judicial cooperation cases.
