The Minister of Innovation, Industry, Trade and Tourism, Nuria Montes, has announced that the Generalitat will initiate a tourism promotion strategy for the Valencian Community to attract tourists from the Middle East and South-East Asia.
The minister, who this week heads a trade mission to Dubai on the occasion of the Gulfood 2024 fair, has held meetings with Emirates Airlines, one of the most important airlines in the world, and with the tourist operator Emirates Holidays.
During the meeting held with Emirates Airlines, Nuria Montes conveyed to the airline's representatives the interest of the Valencian Community to have a direct link with Dubai airport, the world's first international airport, in the medium or long term.
The head of Tourism has been able to verify that "the two have shown interest, especially in the medium and long term" to be able to connect the Valencian Community with a direct flight to Dubai "which serves as a gateway to the entire area of Asia and Australia".
In addition, he explained that currently Emirates Airlines has daily flights with Barcelona and Madrid airports, which will increase the connection with two daily frequencies, although he emphasised that "they are more interested in the Madrid route because of the connection with AVE with the city of Valencia".
Nuria Montes has remarked on the importance of connecting the Valencian Community with Dubai, as it is the first international airport in the world. According to the latest data of 2023, Dubai International Airport has established itself as the number one airport in the world with 87 million passengers and is also currently connected to 262 destinations in 104 countries through 102 international carriers.
For this reason, he has announced that from the Generalitat "we will start a tourism promotion strategy" to attract tourists from the Middle East and Southeast Asia in the medium term. Thus, he has revealed that the objective is "to build a product to be a reference destination in the travel portfolio of these countries within a period of at least 4 or 5 years".
In this context, he explained that this promotion will be "focused on the image of cultural destinations, gastronomic destinations and those related to health tourism". In addition, he pointed out that in Dubai "the luxury segment is being worked on in a very important way and this is where we will try to position ourselves, especially with a medium-term objective".
Finally, the minister recalled that "we will continue to promote our destination through the main tourism and air connectivity fairs" and, in this sense, she pointed out that next October "we will participate in Bahrain in Routes World, the main fair of air connectivity of the international scene" to show the tourism offer of the Valencian Community with the aim of establishing contacts for the opening of new routes and attracting flights to our destination.
