Councillor Mónica Gómez has gone to Xàbia to collect both badges, which will soon be raised on these two beaches.
The Blue Flags will fly this summer on Benidorm's Levante and Poniente beaches, joining the other awards certifying the excellent quality of the city's waters and beaches. Benidorm City Council's Councilor for Beaches, Mónica Gómez, traveled to La Grava beach in Xàbia on Monday, where the presentation ceremony for these flags, awarded by the Association for Environmental and Consumer Education (ADEAC), was held. The ceremony was presided over by Vicente Martínez Mus, Minister of Environment, Infrastructure, and Territory of the Generalitat Valenciana.
The councillor recalled that "Levante beach renews its Blue Flag award this year, while Poniente beach will once again receive it once the work to relocate the footbaths and bury pipes at greater depths has been completed. This work was carried out last year to secure these infrastructures and reduce the risk of damage or breakage in potential storms." "Once these works are completed," Mónica Gómez explained, "and as in the case of Levante beach, for 2025 we have once again submitted the candidacy for Poniente beach and, as expected, both beaches have once again received this Blue Flag for having sand and bathing waters in excellent condition, as well as the rest of the information, environmental education, safety, and facilities services provided."
Gómez explained that "in the coming weeks, as the summer season begins, the official raising of these blue flags will take place, along with the other awards that Benidorm's beaches receive year after year, such as the Ecoplayas flags awarded this year in Levante, Poniente, and Mal Pas," as well as the blue flag obtained once again by the Benidorm Yacht Club.
The councilor also pointed out that all these awards are "the result of the daily efforts made by the City Council, the beach management body, and the concessionaire company to continue the path we began many years ago of never lowering the quality and services of our beaches, our most precious asset."
Finally, the municipal head of Beaches explained that, in the case of Mal Pas beach, the City Council has not submitted a Blue Flag application this year due to the pending works to relocate the footbaths, "thus following the criteria of the Environmental and Consumer Education Association itself not to award Blue Flags to beaches where work is being carried out." The councillor recalled that this criterion "has been applied by the ADEAC in Benidorm in recent years, although not in other coastal municipalities" and indicated that, "although we still do not have a date to start these works, knowing that it was very likely that we would not be granted it for this reason, we have directly preferred not to opt for the blue flag in Mal Pas because there are already many other distinctions that certify that the quality of the water and its sand are excellent, as also certified by the analyses we carry out throughout the year in them", being one of the few municipalities in the entire country that examines its beaches so exhaustively.
