Last Sunday, June 1, the summer tourist and bathing season began with all services operating at 100% in La Cala de Finestrat.
Lifeguarding began operating every weekend during Easter until yesterday, June 1st. From then on, lifeguarding will be operational every day, Monday through Sunday, from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., without interruption, until October 15th. In this regard, it's important to note the recent signage work at the lifeguard post, with completely renovated, more colorful, and larger signage, "to make it easier to locate from any point on the beach," said Estela Álvarez, Councilor for Beaches.
ACCESSIBLE BEACH AREA.
Accessible Beach Area is also open, where lifeguards make swimming easier for people with reduced mobility, providing shade and wooden walkways. It operates the same hours as the lifeguard service: Monday to Sunday, from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. New this year, it has changed location and is now available at the eastern end of the beach, next to Plaça de l'Àmfora. "There, they have more space and more comfort for users, and wider access."
ISO 9001 and 14001 CERTIFICATIONS:
The Councilor for Playa, together with the Mayor, Juanfran Pérez Llorca, recently raised the ISO 9001:2015 and 14001:2015 certifications, which attest to the excellent quality of services and the City Council's firm commitment to environmental preservation in La Cala de Finestrat.
5 YEARS OF BEING A SMOKE-FREE BEACH:
In 2020, Finestrat became the first municipality in Spain to prohibit smoking or vaping on its beach, La Cala de Finestrat. Back then, in 2020, it was a measure introduced in the context of the pandemic to contain the spread of the virus. And in 2021, Ordinance No. 29 on social distancing was amended to prohibit it and impose penalties if someone is found smoking or vaping on the sand.
This summer marks 5 years since the introduction of this measure, which is duly signposted with informational posters at the entrance to the beach along each walkway. People are also reminded of this through the PA system. "With this measure, we want to protect the health of our visitors, especially families. And we also want to preserve the coastline and our sand, avoiding the dirt and pollution generated by cigarette butts on the beach. The environment is a commitment, and it's up to all of us to take care of it."
SOLAR-POWERED PA SYSTEM .
This information system is installed on the promenade to inform swimmers about things like which flag is flying (green, yellow, or red), depending on the risk of swimming. They also inform visitors that La Cala de Finestrat is a smoke-free beach. The system is powered by solar energy.
CONNECTIVITY:
La Cala has a free WiFi network on the beach, as well as USB ports on various benches along the promenade for easy charging of mobile devices.
Other amenities available to residents and visitors in La Cala include a bio-health area for outdoor exercise, beach volleyball nets, a public restroom, and the option to rent hammocks, umbrellas, and awnings.
In recent months, improvements in La Cala have included maintenance work on the footbaths and changing rooms, the renovation of all the wooden benches on the promenade and in Plaça de l'Àmfora, and the renovation of the children's playground on Avenida Marina Baixa, where the flooring was replaced. Other work has included the area adjacent to the playground, where the gravel has been replaced with artificial turf, and the renovation of the swings in the sand playground.
