More than 30,000 Britons, joined by a good number of Spaniards and other nationalities, participated today in the Fancy Dress Party organised by the hotels and leisure venues in the English area of Benidorm, with the collaboration of Abreca Cobreca and Benidorm City Council.
Vehicle access controls were established in the area between Mallorca, Gerona and Lepanto streets by the Local Police and a special protocol has been put in place to prevent any unforeseen events by the health services, Civil Protection and Firefighters with the aim that this traditional day after the Festes Majors Patronals, which has been celebrated in the city for more than three decades, is commemorated without incident.
Irene Carreño, manager of Abreca Cobreca, has highlighted the participation in the parade of 14 floats, exhibition vehicles, a batucada group that have created “a very good atmosphere, a very good vibe” in which everyone dresses up “better or worse”, but always “in a good mood, because in British tourism nobody gets angry”.
Carreño has clarified that “many” of those who have come, even “whole families”, “plan their holidays” to coincide with the Benidorm fiestas and the Benidorm Fancy Dress Party because “in Benidorm they feel very well looked after” and the city enjoys an unbeatable climate at this time.
On this occasion, 38 establishments have collaborated: Marina Resort, Funky Flamingo, Guinness Bar, Jolly Roger, Daytona Rock, Outback Aussie Bar, CandemTown, Shamrock, Rockstar, Winners Sport Bar, Hotel Riudor, The Meeting Point, Jumping Jacks, Morgan Tavern, Western Saloon, Hotel California, Phillipines 10, Hotel Ambassador 1, Hotel Ambassador 2, Hotel Presidente, Hotel Riviera, Rockerfellas, Zodiaco, Palladium, Grupo TIKI, Silver Dollar, Gold Dollar, Million Dollar, Silver City, Sinatras, Jockers, Chaplins, Rockys, Planet Benidorm, Broadway, The Square, Why Not and Yorkshire Pride 1.
On the other hand, this year the organisation wanted to show the most charitable side of the Benidorm Fancy Dress Party and has agreed to carry out collections that will be destined to alleviate the needs of the population affected by DANA in the central regions of Valencia. All participating establishments have installed donation boxes from Saturday 9th until today, Friday 15th, where interested parties can deposit their donations. In a few days, the amount raised and what it will be used for will be announced.
