In response to the heightened risk of wildfires, Villajoyosa has launched a specialized surveillance operation utilizing drones operated by the Local Police in rural and mountainous regions. This initiative aims to monitor the countryside continuously over the coming days to swiftly identify any incidents.
Mayor Marcos Zaragoza announced last Tuesday that enhanced surveillance measures would be deployed in forested areas, following a fire alert issued by the Valencian Regional Government.
Jaime Santamaría, the Councillor for Citizen Security, stated, "Our Local Police are already patrolling high-risk zones with traditional methods, and now they are also employing drones to oversee the area from the air, enabling rapid detection of any signs of fire or incidents."
This advanced technology facilitates aerial monitoring of rural landscapes, making it possible to spot smoke or fires early and alert officers immediately.
Alongside drone patrols, the operation incorporates mountain bikes used by officers to bolster prevention efforts in the terrain.
The Councillor also reminded residents that the region remains under the extreme pre-emergency fire risk level as declared by the Generalitat (Catalan government) on August 14. Citizens are urged to exercise caution, avoid lighting fires in forests, and refrain from using potentially fire-starting tools or machinery in these areas. If anyone notices smoke or fire, they should call 112 without delay.
