Villajoyosa’s Centro beach became the stage this morning for a large-scale surveillance and rescue drill involving the local lifeguard service and the Local Police. The exercise aimed to test the effectiveness of emergency protocols designed to guarantee swift and coordinated responses to incidents in the water.
The drill simulated the rescue of a swimmer in distress. Lifeguards reached the bather both from the shore and the sea, using a jet ski to assist in the extraction. At the same time, Local Police officers mobilised along the sand on quads, while another patrol approached from the promenade. Once the swimmer was brought to shore, rescue teams performed resuscitation maneuvers before transferring him to an ambulance. The exercise concluded after all established protocols were completed.
Mayor Marcos Zaragoza, along with Tourism Councilor Rosa Llorca and Beaches Councilor Carlos Soler, observed the drill.
Zaragoza highlighted the importance of such exercises, stressing that “these drills are essential for refining protocols and ensuring that, above all, the safety and health of bathers are guaranteed.”
